Stop Comment Spam Plugin

I found a new WordPress plugin for stopping comment spam before it gets sent to the moferation queue. It appears that comment spammers use remote tools (bots) to insert their spammy comments all over the Internet blogging community. This plugin keeps their spam from completing the posting process by implementing a dynamic generation of a md5 hash. What’s a md5 hash? I have no idea but I do know that it works. I haven’t had a single comment spam in my comment moderation queue for over a week now.

While many of the other things I’ve done to stop the comment spam from reaching my moderation queue has worked to slow down the spammers, I was still getting about 10 to 20 a week, which is much improved over the 50 or so I was getting every single day. Closing down comments on old posts seemed to work the best in slowing down the amount of comment spam but I was still getting more than I wanted to mess with. The Spam Stopgap Extreme plugin has done the job so far. I’m feeling the love! :) The link explains what the plugin does and how it does it. It’s pretty cool, check it out.

I may even turn comments back on for my older posts just to see what happens. I’d like to allow comments without having to moderate them before they show up. I may just do that in a few weeks if my moderation queue stays comment spam free.
